Theatre has always sought to connect with real life. Yet theatre audiences often question the “authenticity of life” portrayed on stage: can ordinary lives really be so “dramatic”? And yet, in this ever-changing, almost surreal world, ordinary lives, our own lives, what we see and hear in everyday life, can sometimes be even more dramatic than theatre itself. Things we would find impossible to believe if we wrote them into a play simply happen in our lives.
In these turbulent times, we move away from realism and return to the distant world of Greek mythology. A different time and place, yet still telling stories about human beings. Through theatre, through the stage, we create distance to come closer to what it means to be human.
